WOW – What a year!

A royal wedding, the release of artificial intelligence that can convince you it’s human, nuclear disarmament talks between the World’s 2 biggest egos, a new prime minister (again)…2018 has been a jam-packed year from all accounts.

And is it just me or did it go incomprehensibly fast?

For the HiRUM team this year, our main focus has been intensive research and development. We have some exciting releases scheduled soon, but first we want to take a quick step back and reflect on the year passed. We think it’s a great opportunity to revisit the new innovations that we’ve already unveiled – just in case you missed them!

So, what’s HiRUM’s biggest news stories for 2018?

Airbnb

After 8 months of hard work from 3 dedicated developers, we are incredibly proud to be able to offer a seamless two-way connection between Airbnb and our HiSITE Channel Manager. This has by far been our greatest challenge and triumph for 2018, and we appreciate your patience in allowing us to take the time required to ensure a top quality connection.

Booking form updates & platinum booking form

The accommodation industry has recently seen an undeniable change in booking habits, with 45% of Aussie smartphone users now reporting they’re comfortable researching, planning and booking their entire trip on a mobile device (Source: Google Consumer Insights, February 2018).

To proactively adapt to these changing traveller habits, our development team worked hard to bring some important mobility updates to our booking engine in November this year. Alongside this, we are proud to announce the release of our new platinum booking form, which brings enhanced layouts, enlarged maps, greater room detailing, stunning high resolution images and greater flexibility for customisation. HiRUM Anywhere

We’ve continued to receive a great response after HiRUM Anywhere was released last year. Our inspection app has now been downloaded onto 405 devices and our front desk application on a massive 437 devices! The development team has continued to work on both of these mobile applications, recently submitting updates for both with additional functionalities for multi-properties provided.

Snapshot

In an increasingly competitive market, making informed decisions for your business is vital. 2018 has also been another very busy year for HiRUM’s in-house web development team, with the successful completion of 6 beautifully designed and booking-optimised client websites. The team work hard to keep up with the latest best practices and are happy to hear this is already paying off in the form of increased direct bookings and website performance for our valued clients.

Marketing Reach Program Updates

As the digital marketing world continues to evolve, we’ve taken a close look at our marketing reach program to ensure it continues to deliver our marketing clients the greatest value possible. As a result, we’re very excited about some impending updates we’re implementing from 1st January 2019.

Facebook optimisation and posts will now be included in the program with Instagram being added in as an available option. All marketing clients will also receive a post-stay auto-letter to help them strengthen their relationship with their guest after check-out and encourage the guest to share a review online. We’ll of course continue to manage google my business listings, google reviews and provide quarterly performance reports.

Noteworthy Events

We love our industry events here at HiRUM, and are always on the lookout for exciting new initiatives taking place. In June this year, we proudly partnered with Resort News to bring South East Queensland accommodation managers an evening full of insights on how to increase their booking revenue (click here to read the full recap).

Then in October, we had the opportunity to take part in the inaugural Industry Recommended Professional Awards Night held by theonsitemanager.com.au. The night was a huge success and a well-deserved pat on the back for many industry players – we can’t wait until next year! HiRUM team growing

It was a great deal of work and a stellar team that meant we were able to bring you all of the exciting innovations and partnerships mentioned above within a short 12 month period. As such, it would be amiss not to mention the wonderful key players we’ve welcomed to the HiRUM team this year.

In our domestic support team, we welcomed Francois, Leah, Anita and Chelcy (click here for some insider info on them all). We also made the decision to expand internationally to meet a higher demand of support from international clients. We’re proud to introduce Janet and Christina who are leading our support operations in the Philippines (read more here).
