The plummeting Australian dollar may be causing woes for intrepid Australians travelling abroad, but for the domestic tourism industry it is good news.
On Tuesday last week, the dollar slid to a near four-year low against its American counterpart, partly because of the US’s gradual economic recovery.
For French tourists Juliette and Quentin Pozzi, who arrived in Sydney on Tuesday, the good exchange rate has already proved a windfall for their tight travelling budget, which they hope will see them through an eight-month-long working holiday.
“We opened an account in Australia, and even when we transferred all our money from our French bank account to here we noticed the difference,” Mrs Pozzi, 25, said.
