Software Development requires a certain kind of person- someone with detective-like attention to detail, the creative skills of an artist, the problem-solving mindset of an engineer, with a wicked sense of humour to bring it all together. Meet the brains-trust of HiRUM development, keeping our development teams on track and humming like a well-oiled machine!
What is your role at HiRUM Software Solutions?
Rick: I am the Head of Development at HiRUM
Andy: Senior Software Engineer (Hardcore Wizard-Level Coder)
Brett: Software Developer
What is your proudest moment at HiRUM?
Rick: Becoming the head of the development team
Andy: Designing and building epic systems such as Travelgate and our awesome cross-platform mobile application framework
Brett: Building the Android version of the upcoming HiRUM Inspection App
What’s your #1 tip for HIRUM users?
Rick: Don’t turn off your Hirum server.
Andy: The best things come to those who wait. Stay tuned with your eye on the Horizon! We have some bleeding edge stuff we’re working on right now and lots more beyond that.
What is your favourite thing to do in your spare time?
Rick: Visit prize display homes
Andy: Having 2 kids under 2 means not much spare time, but I love spending time with them! I also like researching new technology, software & methodologies and building proof of concept applications.
Brett: Working on my car and driving
Rick: Fleetwood Mac TUSK, most of America and Eagles, no wait Randy Crawford, KD Lang, sorry can’t choose
Andy: Anything from the 80’s with a face-melting guitar solo or complicated guitar parts in general because I have been a guitarist for over 20 years and like to apply my complex problem solving and technical abilities to my guitar work.
Brett: Hurt, Nine Inch Nails.
Rick: Difficult choice between Indian and Mexican, oh and maybe Japanese or Italian mmm… what night is it?
Andy: Anything crazy spicy. Only habanero chilli or hotter will get a thumbs up from me.
What’s one thing you couldn’t live without?
Rick: You want me to choose one thing? Broadband
Andy: Of course my beautiful new family…and my main PC…and fast internet connection…and my 5 guitars…
Brett: Nothing, in the event something can’t be replaced then in time you will learn to live without it.
Where is the best place you’ve travelled to and why?
Rick: Uluru, fantastic family holiday
Andy: Lots of places in Europe are great. Been to France, Italy, Germany, Malta and Majorca. Though the once place that I think about often was Lauterbrunnen in Switzerland. Very quiet & peaceful with amazing views of the Alps and waterfalls falling down the mountains. How’s the serenity!
Brett: Japan, it’s so easy to just get lost in its culture.
Tell us something that might surprise us about you.
Rick: Not sure I have any surprises left!
Andy: I lived for 27 years in the UK and never made it to London or Scotland.
Brett: In school, I played full forward in AFL.
Thanks for sharing guys!
